Conjunction Flood
Flags paragraphs where over 40% of sentences start with coordinating conjunctions (And, But, So).
What It Does
Counts how many sentences in a paragraph begin with a coordinating conjunction. Flags when the ratio exceeds 40% and at least 2 sentences are affected.
Why It Matters
While the occasional conjunction opener creates rhythm and forward momentum, overuse produces a breathless, list-like quality. Every sentence starting with "And" or "But" signals a writer who hasn't found variety in their sentence architecture.
What Gets Flagged
| Severity | Example | Why | Suggested Revision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hint | "She ran. And he followed. But she was faster. And the rain kept falling." | 3/4 = 75% conjunction starts | Vary openers: "He followed close behind. She outpaced him easily." |
Configuration
No configuration options. Requires minimum 3 sentences per paragraph.
