Conjunction Flood

Flags paragraphs where over 40% of sentences start with coordinating conjunctions (And, But, So).

What It Does

Counts how many sentences in a paragraph begin with a coordinating conjunction. Flags when the ratio exceeds 40% and at least 2 sentences are affected.

Why It Matters

While the occasional conjunction opener creates rhythm and forward momentum, overuse produces a breathless, list-like quality. Every sentence starting with "And" or "But" signals a writer who hasn't found variety in their sentence architecture.

What Gets Flagged

Severity Example Why Suggested Revision
Hint "She ran. And he followed. But she was faster. And the rain kept falling." 3/4 = 75% conjunction starts Vary openers: "He followed close behind. She outpaced him easily."

Configuration

No configuration options. Requires minimum 3 sentences per paragraph.
